In the expanded metal industry, Huijinmaterials offers the broadest selection of expanded metal products to choose from.
A wide variety of ferrous and non-ferrous metals can be found in expanded metal, as well as a large variety of mesh sizes, making it a very versatile material.
We offer a wide range of patterns that you can use to achieve the characteristics that are important to you for your particular application. Although there are standard designs, the beauty of our process lies in the pattern variations you can choose from.
There are many factors that must be considered when selecting
expanded metals. For example, an increase in pattern size can alter both the open area and the cost-effectiveness, while a change in strand width can alter both the appearance and weight of the expanded metal.
Did you know that Huijinmaterialsis not only one of the largest suppliers of expanded products in the industry, but also one of the best when it comes to the quality of these products?
With regard to this highly versatile material, our design and engineering teams are experts. In addition to providing you with all the information you need on expanded metal, we can also offer practical recommendations and solutions tailored to your needs in collaboration with you.
Types of Expanded Metal
Whether it is for architectural purposes, industrial use, filtration systems, or security applications, Huijin Company has the perfect solution to meet your requirements. There are various kinds of expanded metal we manufacture and sell, including flat expanded metals, standard expanded metals, expanded gratings, 3/4#9 expanded metals, galvanized expanded metals, steel expanded metals, aluminum expanded metals, etc. You will find the ideal expanded metal product for your specific project among our wide variety of specifications, sizes, patterns, and materials.
How Is Expanded Metal Made?
Process
With expanded metal, solid sheet or plate metals are transformed into a material with diamond-shaped openings that are joined by continuous, uniform strands. Slitting and stretching are simultaneous processes that produce an expanded material that is almost free of scrap. Heat, fluids, light, sound, and air can pass through the no-raveling metal product because it is structurally sound and no-raveling.
Expansion metal can be specified to achieve any characteristics that are most important, even though there are standard designs.
- Enlarged pattern sizes contribute to better cost-effectiveness.
- Varied strand widths offer versatility, impacting appearance and weight.
- Unflattened expanded metal offers inherent strength and rigidity.
- Flattening enhances surface smoothness. Expanded metal is known for its versatility and functionality, making it an economical component in a wide range of designs. Its capacity to be customized for specific applications ensures a product tailored to its intended use.
No Scrap, No Raveling
Compared to perforated metal or wire cloth, expanded metal has both economy and ease of handling advantages.
Step 1: Advance the sheet or plate by the width of a single strand, extending beyond the lower die’s surface. Subsequently, feed the sheets into an expanding machine.
Step 2: Lower the upper die, simultaneously slitting and cold forming an entire row of half diamonds.
Step 3: Raise the upper die while shifting half of a diamond to the right, coinciding with the forward movement of the base sheet or plate by one strand width.
Step 4: Lower the upper die once more, slitting and forming another full row of half-diamonds, thereby completing a row of full diamonds within two strokes.
Step 5: Raise the die, returning it to its initial position.
Benefits of Expanded Metal
In comparison with traditional sheet metal and other materials,
expanded metal offers many advantages.
- Lightweight: Expanded metal is notably lightweight, making it easier to handle, transport, and install compared to solid sheet metal. This characteristic can be particularly beneficial in applications where weight considerations are critical.
- Enhanced Ventilation: The unique design of expanded metal with its perforations or diamond-shaped openings allows for improved airflow and ventilation. This feature is valuable in applications where airflow and heat dissipation are essential, such as HVAC systems or radiator covers.
- Cost-Effective: Expanded metal is often more cost-effective than solid sheet metal due to its efficient use of materials and the ability to reduce overall material thickness while maintaining strength and durability. This cost efficiency makes it an attractive option for various projects.
- Customizable: Expanded metal can be customized to meet specific design and functional requirements. This includes variations in pattern size, strand width, and overall dimensions, allowing for tailored solutions in various applications.
- Strength and Rigidity: Despite its lightweight nature, expanded metal offers excellent strength and rigidity. It maintains structural integrity and durability even under heavy loads, making it suitable for applications where strength is crucial.
- Anti-Slip Properties: The raised surface texture of expanded metal provides enhanced traction, reducing the risk of slipping in walkways, stair treads, or flooring applications.
- Aesthetic Appeal: Expanded metal can be used to create visually appealing designs and architectural elements. It is available in various patterns and finishes, making it versatile for both functional and decorative purposes.
- Sustainability: Expanded metal is a sustainable material choice. It is often manufactured from recycled metal, reducing the environmental impact. Additionally, its durability and longevity contribute to reduced maintenance and replacement costs over time.
- Security and Safety: The strength and openness of expanded metal make it suitable for security applications, such as fencing, grating, and partitions. It offers a balance between security and visibility.
- Easy Maintenance: Expanded metal is easy to clean and maintain, making it a practical choice for applications where hygiene is essential, such as food processing or medical equipment.
